Ice Climbing in Shenandoah National Park
Sperryville: Mary's Rock's from Turkey Mountain
It’s hard to beat rappelling down through the spray of an icy waterfall down through a rocky gorge on a hot summer day… only to land a plunge pool of crystal clear, but still icy cold, water… and then keep on moving downstream just to do it all over again. Join our guides late May thru September on one of the several canyons whose waterfall routes we have pioneered. All required gear is provided (helmets, wetsuit ropes, harness, hardware). By reservation only.
Maximum group size: 4 (We recommend reservations be made at least 2 weeks in advance)
Guided Trekking in Shenandoah National Park
These tours are designed for backpackers of all levels…beginner - intermediate - advanced. Each trip loops thru the best backcountry trails of the region: waterfalls, high meadows, rugged mountaintops, mountaineer farming communities. With diverse flora and fauna, spectacular terrain and the master educators and guides of Teamlink/Shenandoah Mountain Guides, these trips are unforgettable experiences.
A highlight for September and October are the fall colors. In spring the very popular “Waterfalls and Wildflowers” hikes feature the two displays of nature for which Shenandoah is famous: the overwhelming wildflower displays and the spectacular waterfalls.
Maximum group size: 6
Old Rag Mountain Guided Climbing
Old Rag Mountain is known for its exposed, ragged summit…its granite climbs are legendary.
Join Shenandoah Mountain Guides on our “home” mountain. Many of our staff grew up, literally, in the shadow of this mountain and have logged tens of thousands of hours scrambling up and across the many rocks and pitches. We know this mountain like most people know their backyards… it’s been our backyard for our entire lives! And no one knows the mountain better!
October - December, and February - April… known to the local climbing community as “Old Rag Seasons” …no snakes and no poison ivy combine to make these times of year our favorites. Even in late winter, the south facing granite slabs below the summit area of the mountain have been known to bask in brilliant warm sun.
Two-day (or more) guided trips can be arranged to meet your schedule. Come climb, boulder, scramble, or just explore.
These trips fill very quickly, and group size is limited to 6.
By reservation only.
